| Appraiser Comments: | All my research shows that your doll is most likely made by UNIS - which is "Societe Francaise de Fabrication de Bebes et Jouets" or S.F.B.F. of Paris and Montruil-sous-Bois, France. Circa 1922-1938.
I still feel that her head is bisque and not papier-mache. Bisque will feel cool to the touch and have a slight sheen to the finish in the light. Papier-mache is more dull and hollow-sounding when tapped. Also papier-mache rarely has that perfect finish I see to your doll's head. Over time the papier-mache finish tends to crackle. Either way it is wonderful antique doll and I hope you are able to find someone who can reset the eyes for you and restring her. There are doll hospitals in some states or on the internet. She is considered a "Costume Doll". They were dressed to represent different cultures around the world. You will see two values at the end of this appraisel. The first is the value as she is now - if you tried to sell her to a dealer. The second is the replacement value and also what she would be worth when restored. Thank you, Debby |
